A Brief History of Grifonton, Page 10

PANEL 1

The Gryphon addresses the brothers knowingly.

GRYPHON: "So! I suppose youve come to ask if Ill fight the Goths for you, eh? Lets change the subject, yes?"

BROTHER: "Yes, how did you—"

GRYPHON: "You didnt think murdering hordes of humans would escape my notice, did you?"

GRYPHON: "Why should I help you and your people?"

PANEL 2

William makes his case to the Gryphon.

WILLIAM: "Well, our town has never hunted or harmed you, and weve always turned a blind eye when you made off with one of our cows."

PANEL 3

The Gryphon considers the argument but seems disinterested.

GRYPHON: "Mmm, yes, but your cows have been rather scrawny as of late."

GRYPHON: "Surely the Goths will bring fatter ones?"

GRYPHON: "I see no reason to get involved in this conflict."

THOMAS: "But, what will happen to my family? My children and wife?"

GRYPHON: "Sucks to your family."

WILLIAM: "Thomas! Calm down!"

PANEL 4

Thomas confronts the Gryphon angrily, getting close to her face.

THOMAS: "How can you talk about someones family like that? Dont you have a heart?"

GRYPHON: "Swear to me that you will fight for us lest my blade slit your worthless throat!"

Everything that follows is original 2005 commentary except where noted “–RN 2012″:

I started disliking the Gryphon at this point. I can see how she got so callous, though. Look at what humans did to the world. She watches them come and go like vermin, but she lives on. Why should she care? What’s the point? Screw the humans!

It shows that we often become what we hate. In the case of the Gryphon, she became as disgusting as the people she once hated.
