A Brief History of Grifonton, Page 2

PANEL 1

A dramatic scene showing a haggard man with dark hair standing nearly naked (wearing only a loincloth) before what appears to be a gathering. Behind him, a barbarian warrior in dark armor raises a sword, with an army of spear-wielding soldiers visible against a starry sky.

ROBERTSON: "My name is Robertson. I come bearing tidings of death and misery. I am a refugee from the once great Metropolis of Prosperi."

ROBERTSON: "The barbarians in the north have been ousted from their lands by their own gods. Now they sweep across the plains, destroying everything in their path."

ROBERTSON: "They conquered my city, enslaved my people. I was lucky to escape with my life."

PANEL 2

Three figures are shown: an older bearded man in formal attire on the left, a concerned-looking person in the middle, and a woman in fancy dress with feathered hat on the right taking notes.

BEARDED MAN: "The name of this barbarian tribe and their leader?"

ROBERTSON: "The Goths... ...lead by Lothar of the Hill People."

PERSON IN MIDDLE: GASP!

PERSON IN MIDDLE: "Then we are doomed."

WOMAN WITH FEATHERS: "Should I put that down in the minutes?"

Everything that follows is original 2005 commentary except where noted “–RN 2012″:

By the way, the whole scribe and minutes shtick I totally borrowed from the BBC’s * Vicar of Dibley* starring the vivacious Dawn French (I heart Dibley). I had just watched a few episodes the day before I put pen to paper. Oh, and there’s a Saturday Night Live reference some of you older folks might catch. Subtle humor. Really subtle.
