The girl looks to the side, pondering.

GIRL: "I thought it was my makeup, but even smeared like it was, people treated me differently from before."

PANEL 2

Close-up profile view of the girl looking contemplative.

GIRL: "Maybe..."

GIRL: "I just had to stop thinking I was ugly and start acting like I was beautiful?"

PANEL 3

The girl is shown in an ornate oval mirror frame, looking directly at the viewer with a slight smile and newfound confidence.

This was based on a true story. I quickly forget my own lessons, though. After jaw surgery I didn’t bother putting makeup on until the swelling had subsided. But people were smiling and treating me nicely long before I started using the stuff again, even misshapen as I was. I must have been doing something right!

This originally had a different final panel, but my editor at gURL.com wanted something different. My original ending for this comic was much wordier.
