NARRATION: Although she was a nice, gentle girl, Cora was always left standing on the outside.
NARRATION: Part of it was that the other children knew about Lynette.

Children watch through a rain-streaked window as Cora walks home alone in the rain.
CHILD 1: Is Cora's mom making her walk home in the rain again?
CHILD 2: Cora must be a really bad kid if even her own mom hates her.
NARRATION: To them, Cora was tainted, untouchable.

Children discuss a party while Cora walks away alone.
CHILD: Did you hear about Clarissa's birthday party? Everybody is invited!
CHILD: Well, except for you know who.
NARRATION: But, Cora had her own "family."
