In retrospect, I wish I had listened to my dentist instead of worrying about how my mother would pay for braces. The surgery and braces I had to get as an adult–possibly avoidable if I’d had braces as a kid–cost way more. But then again, maybe it was unavoidable since one side of my jaw ended up longer than the other anyway.
