RACHEL: "It's time to pull out all the stops and amp up the glam."

RACHEL: "The convention circuit beckons!"

PANEL 2

Rachel at her convention table, welcoming customers with open arms. Her table displays various comics including "Revolutions" and "Poison." Stars decorate the background.

RACHEL: "Hello there!"

RACHEL: "Would you care to peruse my wares?"

Small text: "Yes, she actually says these things."

PANEL 3

A customer browses while another talks to Rachel.

CUSTOMER: "Hmmm, I dunno."

CUSTOMER: "I don't like 'manga' as a genre."

PANEL 4

Rachel corrects the customer, who realizes their mistake.

RACHEL: "But 'manga' isn't a genre."

RACHEL: "Manga has genres, like horror and fantasy."

RACHEL: "Methinks you are making a broad generalization."

CUSTOMER: (thinking) "Oh no... She's correcting me!"

I gave this speech so many times. I usually got men to buy at least one of my comics. Maybe the pinstriped halter top helped my winning sales pitch. What was surprising is how many became big fans and would continue to read the comics online between stocking up at my booth at future conventions.
