Rachel the Great’s Convention Adventures: Semper Paratus, Page 2

PANEL 1

Rachel uses a sock puppet to talk to a customer.

RACHEL: "I get good reviews all the time from people like you..."

Label: "the sock puppet as a sales pitch"

SOCK PUPPET: "Well, usually I don't like manga, but I do like Rachel's comics!"

PANEL 2

Rachel makes her pitch, holding up a comic. Sparkles and flowers surround her head.

RACHEL: "Don't let the big sparkly eyes fool you!"

RACHEL: "My comics don't have any of those love triangles and floating flowers and shit."

Small text: "Usually."

RACHEL: "Have a look at this one! It's my favorite."

RACHEL: "It's about buying condoms to go to a convention!*"

Labels: "pitch in full swing", "attempting to convert the masses"

Footer: "*See Always Pack Protection"

PANEL 3

The customer bursts out laughing.

SFX: BWAHAHAHA!

RACHEL: (thinking) "Woah, he barely read it, and he's already laughing. Are my comics that good?"

PANEL 4

The customer explains while Rachel looks disappointed.

CUSTOMER: "I don't think anyone's at risk of getting laid at a comic con!"

I wasn’t kidding in Always Pack Protection. I always packed condoms when I went to comic conventions. Never once needed to use them (guess I was too busy working the table), but it was nice knowing they were there for me, just in case.

Fun fact: Semper paratus is Latin for “always prepared.”
