Things That Rub Me the Wrong Way: Scents and Sensibility, Page 2

PANEL 1

Various products are shown: a bar of soap, a compact/makeup, deodorant spray, and hand lotion.

NARRATOR: There are overpowering scents in everything these days, from hairspray to hand lotion.

PANEL 2

Rachel wears a gas mask while checking the mail. A perfumed catalog labeled "Victoria's Secret Scents" wafts fragrance at her.

RACHEL: "Time to check the mail..."

NARRATOR: Even my mail is hosed down with perfume!

PANEL 3

Rachel stands against a floral background, looking exasperated. She wears a "Thinking is free" t-shirt.

RACHEL: "Whatever happened to unscented?"

RACHEL: "And don't get me started on body sprays."

PANEL 4

A stylized feminine figure sprays body spray in an arc, surrounded by flowers and fragrance swirls. A small figure (Rachel) with a question mark looks on confused.

NARRATOR: After you're done applying your scented deodorant, hair products, lotion, makeup and who knows what else, you can top it all off with a varnish of yet another overpowering fragrance.

Was that nod to Roy Lichtenstein in the first panel on purpose or by accident?

    Yes…

    YES!!

Everyone needs to read this comic. Or, at LEAST, this page.

I love this arc! I work with kids with autism some of whom are EXTREMELY sensitive to scents. So smelling like a flowers and fruit exploded on me is really not an option. Thank heavens for the recent popularity in unscented, dye free products!
