PANEL 1

A Nice Old Woman greets Rachel on the street.

NICE OLD WOMAN: "Oh, Rachel! How've you been?"

RACHEL: "Oh, hi, um..."

Caption: "She can't remember who that woman is."

PANEL 2

NICE OLD WOMAN: "You must be eighteen now. Are you going to college?"

PANEL 3

Rachel explains cheerfully.

RACHEL: "Actually, I'm making comics instead of shipping off to college this year."

NICE OLD WOMAN: "What?"

A small confused flower/thought bubble appears.

PANEL 4

Rachel continues, looking optimistic against a floral background.

RACHEL: "Well, they say you should follow your dream, and I--"

This was the last comic in my self-published graphic novel, *18 Reovlutions. *It’s more autobiographical than most and details how I felt at 18/19 about what I wanted to do with the rest of my life and the opposition I was getting on multiple fronts.

FYI, I still can’t remember who people are by their appearance. I have since learned that this is a condition known as “face-blindness,” and that people usually cope with it either by becoming withdrawn or extremely outgoing. Guess mechanism I used?
